Bostonians were the first to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in North America. On March 17, 1737, as a gesture of solidarity among the city’s new Irish immigrants, Boston’s Irish community joined together in festivities of their homeland and to honor the memory of the below Patron Saint of Ireland.

I’m a bagpiper based in Whately, Massachusetts, with over 15 years of experience performing, teaching, and leading in the piping community. I started learning the bagpipes at age ten, studying under Adam Holdaway, and quickly found my place in the Stuart Highland Pipe Band of Wilmington, MA, where I’ve played ever since and have served as pipe major since 2018. Pipe majors are responsible for the overall sound of the band, leading rehearsals, instructing players, and making sure the band is ready for any competition or performance. I am also a member of The Commonwealth Pipes and Drums of Melrose, MA.

The Great Highland Bagpipe is one of the most haunting and melodious instruments. It's awe-inspiring sound can evoke emotions from deep within and can make you dance or cry… perhaps at the same time! Adam has been performing at weddings, funerals, memorials, graduations, political campaigns and promotional events in the Boston, MA area for nearly 20 years and has attained the professional status (highest level of solo competition performance) as graded by the Eastern United States Pipe Band Association.
