CWO Kevin Gilheany, stationed at the Marine Safety Office Louisana, learned to play the Bagpipes several years ago under the tutelage of LT Steve Young, who is currently assigned to the Telecommunications Information Systems Command in Alexandria, VA.

The question of having a Pipe Band was brought to the Legion Branch membership in the year 1969.

The 33rd Halifax Service Battalion Volunteer Pipes and Drums Society, was formed in 1977.

The band was formed in 1999, of tri-service and civilian volunteer musicians.

The Black Watch is the oldest highland regiment in Canada. Volunteers have served since the regiment’s inception in Montreal on January 31st, 1862 as the 5th Battalion, Volunteer Militia Rifles of Canada.

Raised in 1946 through the demobilisation of the Lothians & Border Yeomanry, The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards Pipes & Drums have gone on to become one of the most famous pipe bands on the planet.

The Band has won many awards over the decades. We have put together a CD of some of our most requested tunes, On Watch to Strike which is now available.

From the Beginning of the 48th Highlanders there have been pipers present.
